Pastoral Assistants & Bereavement Team

Pastoral Assistants

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
2 Corinthians 1 vv 3-4

There are times in our life when we experience difficult or unexpected situations, where having someone to walk alongside and to provide a listening ear can be of help in reflecting and working through a situation and coming to a possible resolution. Our Pastoral Assistants are trained to listen sensitively, with empathy, and to be there to support and pray with, or for those in need.

St Nicolas has currently  a team of five Pastoral Assistants who have completed the Guildford Diocese Foundation Training Course. Working with, and on behalf of the ministry team, our pastoral care work involves supporting those baptising their children, parenting support, visiting the sick, the housebound, those in hospital and supporting the bereaved.

The Bereavement Team

The bereavement team is here to offer support to anyone wo has suffered a loss at any point in their life. You do not need to come to church, or to have had a minister from St Nicolas conduct the funeral, to contact us and ask for a meeting with a bereavement team member.

If you have had a funeral conducted by one of our ministers then the bereavement team will get in touch with you as a matter of course to see if you would like to meet with them.  This happens about 6 weeks after the funeral has taken place  but you are welcome to contact us sooner if you would like to meet before this.

We also offer memorial services twice a year (in May and November) which has the opportunity to continue to give thanks for a loved one's life, to pray, to light a candle in memory of someone and to be with others who have been bereaved.  We will invite anyone who had a minister from St Nicolas conduct their funeral in the last year, but anyone is welcome to attend no matter how long ago a bereavement was.
