Outside : Inside

St Nicolas Church is comprises the fellowship of people who gather together here, either in person or in spirit.

But there is also a 'here'! Our beautiful ancient church building sitting in a magnificent churchyard on the crossroads in the very heart of Great Bookham.

These too need careful and dedicated tending to keep them well for future generations.

Working with Nature

We have four teams who work with nature: the Churchyard team, the Gardening team, the team of Flower Arrangers and our Eco team. Each of these teams would welcome new members.

Flowers, Gardens and the Churchyard

Our Flower Arrangers work together to enhance the beauty of the church for Sunday services, with special attention to our major festival such as Christmas, Easter and Harvest. They also provide flower arrangements for special occasions such as Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals. They bless us all with their creativity.

The Churchyard team maintain the churchyard on a regular basis, and a couple of times a year invite others for a morning of major upkeep in the Spring and the Autumn.

The Gardening team look after the various small garden plots around the churchyard, giving that extra splash of colour and delight to all who walk this way.

To contact the leader of any of these teams, please use the 'Contact Me' button.

The contact for this activity has not yet been established. Your request will instead be sent to the Church Office for further help.

The Eco Team

Our Eco Team is there to encourage the St Nicolas church family to respond positively to care for God’s creation in a wide variety of ways, and to reflect this aspect of our faith to the Bookham community.

Over the past few years our dedicated Eco team have guided St Nicolas all the way through the journey to winning the A Rocha Eco-Church Gold Award. An achievment for which they are rightly proud.

This includes encouraging us personally to consider our own environmental footprint, as well as that of the church; providing a recycling service for those hard-to-recycle items; and creating an environment for greater diversity in teh churchyard.

If you would like to consider joining this team, then simply click on the 'Contact Me' button under their award logo.

Working with Buildings and Fabric

The Fabric Committee meets every two months to review the fabric of the church, both inside at out.

Every year we carry out a full maintenance schedule check on the church and carry out any repairs/ alterations as required. This is often done by the committee but on large work we have a number of preferred contractors on whom we call to carry out the work.

Use this 'Contact Me' button to get in touch with the Fabric team leader.
