From the Tower to the Chancel
“Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.” (Matthew 10:40)
At St Nicolas Church we believe that Jesus sets the example for welcoming everyone. We want to make sure that whatever someone’s needs, they feel able to take part in everything that happens within the life of our church.
St Nicolas Church is proud of its reputation of being warm and welcoming. This doesn't just happen by accident!

In the Tower, the Bell-Ringer will be calling the village to worship, announcing that the church is open for all. Signs outside draw us in to worship. As we enter we are greeted in the Tower by members of the sterwarding team - the Sidesmen - who hand out our service booklet, hymn book and news-letter; assess any specific needs; and guide you into the main body of the church.
Within the church is a Welcomer ready to meet you and, if needs be, show you to an appropriate seat - perhaps moving a chair to make space for a wheelchair; perhaps introducing you to the people you will be sitting next to; and being available during and after the service to answer your questions.
Throughout the service, the team of sidesmen are there to guide you, and to care for your safety and well-being.
After the service, a cafe area with small tables and seating is available, and free refeshments are served to all who wish to stay and chat.
When using the "Contact Me" button, please include your name, contact details and the reason for your request. If you want a copy of the request, please add yourself to the address line.
Sidesmen and Welcomers
When entering our church for a service, you are more than likely first welcomed by one of our 35+ Sidesmen and Welcomers. Whether the 8am, 10am, special services or perhaps a wedding, baptism or funeral, members of our teams will be there to greet and help. This includes greeting people, ensuring they have service booklets and hymn books as needed, guiding people to communion and oversight of safety and welfare whilst at services. Attendance required half an hour before services and to collect books afterwards. New team members are welcome, both as regulars and reserve capacities. Training is provided.

Bell Ringers

Church bells traditionally call the congregation to church on Sunday mornings and special events, including weddings and funerals. A standard rota operates for each week of the month prior to 10am Sunday services and volunteers are invited as required for special events. New ringers welcome. Training is provided.
