Funerals and bereavement support

Deaths are always major events in the lives of the bereaved and help from the church is usually appreciated. Clergy will frequently visit those in hospital and those known to be close to death.

After a death, clergy or readers will be available to give comfort to the bereaved and help with the arrangements for the funeral service in church or at the crematorium, and burial or interment of ashes in the churchyard. St Nicolas parishoners will act as funeral stewards. Those whose ashes are buried in the Garden of Remembrance can have an entry in the Memorial Book in church. The pages of this book are turned each month to the appropriate place. Relatives choose their own inscriptions.

Quarterley memorial services are also held for those who have been recently bereaved and members of our Bereavement Group are available at tea afterwards for a chat. They also visit newly bereaved people.
