Baptisms

Baptism (what people sometimes called ‘Christening’) is a sacrament, a visible sign of God’s love for us. In baptism, we thank God for his gift of life and publicly acknowledge his love.
At St Nicolas we provide two opportunities in a month for the baptism of church members or those living in the Parish of St Nicolas: during our 10 o’clock all-age service on the first Sunday of the month and during a special service of baptism at 12 o’clock on the last Sunday of the month. Although we leave the choice between these two services to you, we do try to limit the number of candidates on any given Sunday to two families. In the case of adults wanting to be baptised we tend to encourage baptism at a service of Confirmation when one the local bishops is present.
If you are thinking about baptism, please contact the Rector, Alan Jenkins (01372 452405). In the first instance either he or the curate, Chris Bessant, will arrange to come and meet with you. We will do our best to explain what is involved in baptism, and to help you understand the promises and commitments you will be making. An initial visit is followed up by a visit from one of our trained baptism visitors. They will provide another link between you and the church although, if you are intending baptism, you will probably want to start attending St Nicolas regularly (if you don’t already).
For those who would like to find more about the Christian faith, including knowing what it is that Christians believe, please do think about coming on one of our introductory courses such as Christianity Explored.
