Music at St Nicolas

Church Choir

Director of Music: Peter Lutton. The Choir, which is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music, sings at many services including weddings. The junior choir, comprising both boys and girls, is given free musical education and training by our Director of Music. They are also paid for every practice, service and wedding they attend. In addition to the music, there are organised activities and outings throughout the year. The full choir normally sing at the Sunday morning services and the Senior Choir at Evensong. A full Choral Evensong takes place once or twice per year

At present the choir comprises 19 youngsters and 14 adults. New members for Junior and Senior choir are always very welcome. Please come along to a practice on a Thursday evening or introduce yourself to Peter.

Song Group

Leader: Sylvia Charles. The Song Group and Instrumentalists meet at 9.00am on the 1st Sunday of the month in church to practice before the 10.00am Family Service. We have a growing number of instrumentalists (clarinet, recorders and cello) and welcome anyone (young or old) who would like to join us.

Bookham Choral Society

Leith Hill Festival is at the heart of Bookham Choral Society's activities, but they also give concerts in the early summer and in the autumn, plus up to three carol concerts in the village at Christmas. Normally the Autumn concert is held in St Nicolas as well as one of the carol concerts. Details can be found on the Bookham Choral web site.

Chantry Wind Quintet

The Chantry Wind Quintet (so called because it first met in The Chantry House) was originally a wind trio (Flute, Clarinet and Bassoon). It later expanded to a quintet by the inclusion of Oboe and Horn players. They perform regularly at lunchtime concerts at St. Matthew's Redhill and St Nicolas, Great Bookham. Their concerts here are enjoyable and draw good audiences.
