Music in St Nicolas Church DORKING CHAMBER ORCHESTRA The Dorking Chamber Orchestra was founded in January 1988. It specialises in works of the 18th and 20th centuries and is run by a team of its players. The DCO is affiliated to the National Federation of Music Societies (NFMS). Their principal conductor is Michael Young. They give regular concerts in local churches including St Nicolas. Back to top BOOKHAM CHORAL SOCIETY Leith Hill Festival is at the heart of Bookham Choral Society's activities, but they also give concerts in the early summer and in the autumn, plus up to three carol concerts in the village at Christmas. Normally the Autumn concert is held in St Nicolas as well as one of the carol concerts. Details can be found on their web site at http://bookhamchoral.supanet.com/. Back to top CHANTRY WIND QUINTET The Chantry Wind Quintet (so called because it first met in The Chantry House) was originally a wind trio (Flute, Clarinet and Bassoon). About 3 years ago it expanded to a quintet by the inclusion of Oboe and Horn players. They perform regularly at lunchtime concerts at St. Matthew’s Redhill and St Nicolas, Great Bookham. The last concert, on February 15th here was to a large audience and was very enjoyable. We look forward to welcoming them back for their next concert which will be advertised here as soon as we know the date. Back to top CHURCH CHOIR : Director of Music: Peter Lutton The Choir, which is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music, sings at many services including weddings. The junior choir, comprising both boys and girls, is given free musical education and training by our Director of Music. They are also paid for every practice, service and wedding they attend. In addition to the music, there are organised activities and outings throughout the year. The full choir normally sing at the Sunday morning services and the Senior Choir at Evensong. At present the choir comprises 19 youngsters and 14 adults. New members for Junior and Senior choir are always very welcome. Please come along to a practice on a Thursday evening or introduce yourself to Peter.
